Waste Industry Awarded Money for Ergonomics Training

Washington – The Environmental Research and Education Foundation (EREF) received $56,330 last month to conduct additional health and safety training in the workplace. EREF President Michael J. Cagney says the solid waste industry should get the highest benefits from this money, which comes from the Susan Harwood Training Grant and is sponsored by the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). EREF will use the grant to translate ergonomics training handouts from English to Spanish; develop checklists – in English and in Spanish – of ergonomics issues for solid waste employers and employees; continue supervising the development of the solid waste industry’s best management practices; and maintain a website.
