Washington Garbage Haulers Vote To Strike

Pierce County, Wash. -- Fifty-five union garbage workers have voted to go on strike, possibly affecting the trash collection for the approximately 60,000 residents of Gig Harbor, Fife and Puyallup, Wash. Members of Teamsters Local 313 have been working without a contract since Sept. 30 and are seeking more money in a three-year contract. Private hauler Waste Connections based in Folsom, Calif., says it will continue its operations in the area using replacement drivers.
