NJTPA Announces Brownfields Redevelopment Plan

Newark, N.J. -- The New Jersey Transportation Planning Authority (NJTPA), working with the New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT), has announced an economic redevelopment program to evaluate a number of brownfields sites for possible freight-related redevelopment.

The program is funded by the Federal Highway Administration (FHA), Washington, D.C., in response to studies concluding that the volume of freight-related activity in the ports of New York and New Jersey will increase drastically within the next 40 years.

The NJTPA's and NJIT's goal is to develop methodologies to evaluate the level of site remediation, assess the transportation improvements necessary to accommodate truck and rail traffic, and perform real estate, financial and marketing services required to promote redevelopment.
