Microturbine Power Plant Goes Live

Lake View Terrace, Calif. -- The world's largest microturbine power plant to run on methane gas produced by landfills began operation on Thursday, Aug. 17, at the Lopez Canyon landfill. The gas will provide electricity for 1,500 homes per day. The $4-million project was initiated by the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (DWP) and the South Coast Air Quality Management District. The DWP plans to install similar plants in other county landfills.
