America Recycles Day Pulls in Huge Heap

Washington, D.C. -– To celebrate America Recycles Day, declared Nov. 15 and 16 by President George W. Bush, volunteers collected more than 35 tons of electronic waste (e-waste) for reuse or recycling. The event drew approximately 75 volunteers to the grounds of the Washington Monument to unload 400 vehicles filled with e-waste collected from residents of the Washington D.C. area. Trained prison inmates will disassemble the machines for parts that can be resold. The event was the result of a partnership among several private companies and government agencies such as AT&New York, and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Washington, D.C.
