Bush Proposes Cuts in Renewable Energy Funding

Washington, D.C. — President George W. Bush has submitted a budget to the U.S. Congress that would cut fiscal 2002 funding for environmental programs by approximately $2.3 billion. Under the proposed budget, federal renewable energy and efficiency research programs would lose more than $200 million. However, the current 1.5-cent tax credit for each kilowatt-hour of electricity produced from wind, organic biomass material and poultry waste would be extended until 2004.
