SWACO Pushes For Paper Recycling Operation

Columbus, Ohio -- The Solid Waste Authority of Central Ohio (SWACO) has approved the installation of a paper recycling operation outside of Columbus, in what had been a waste-to-energy (WTE) facility until the mid 1990s. The Grossman Group now is waiting for the Columbus City Council to approve the facility so it can move its operations to the tipping floor area of the old facility, located south of the city. Currently, the plant is being used by SWACO as a transfer station, but SWACO officials wanted to add paper recycling operations because they say 50 percent of waste in the local landfill is paper. If approved, The Grossman Group estimates it will recover 30,000 tons of paper annually.
