Shaw Industries to Open WTE Plant

Dalton, Ga. – Shaw Industries, the world’s largest carpet manufacturer, is opening a plant next month that will convert its scraps to energy. The $10 million plant will use its scraps and overruns that otherwise would have been sent to a landfill to power one of its factories. The plant also will burn the approximately 6,000 tons of sawdust the company produces from manufacturing wood floors.

The company hopes the plant, designed with the help of Buffalo Grove, Ill.-based Siemens Building Technologies, will save $2.5 million per year on fuel costs.
