Greenhouse Gas Emissions Rise in 2007

Greenhouse gas emissions in the United States increased by 1.4 percent in 2007, according to an annual inventory report by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). The agency is seeking public comment on the report.

EPA credits the increase to jumps in carbon dioxide emissions and electricity consumption. Total emissions for 2007 equaled 7.13 million metric tons, compared to 7.03 million metric tons in 2006.
