Wisconsin Department Proposes Bigger Landfills

Madison, Wis. — The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources "is proposing new rules that would allow landfills to get bigger," according to The Associated Press (AP). However, environmentalists have responded to the proposed changes by saying the new regulations would "encourage more garbage going to the landfill, rather than being recycled," the AP says.

One of the proposed changes would allow the pipes that remove leachate to increase in length from 1,200 feet to 2,000 feet, the AP says. To be adopted, the proposed regulations have to be approved by both the Department of Natural Resources’ board and the state legislature.
