New York hauler pleads guilty to price fixing

On Thursday, David Mangel, owner of CRP Carting in Elmsford, N.Y., pled guilty to one count of racketeering for his part in what Connecticut prosecutors are calling an anti-competition conspiracy. Mangel was one of 29 people indicted in June in conjunction with a larger probe into the alleged organized crime connections of garbage magnate James Galante. According to the Danbury News Times, as the first of the 29 to enter a plea, Mangel may be in a position to receive favorable treatment from prosecutors in return for providing evidence on higher-ups. As it stands, he faces a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison and a $250,000 fine when he is sentenced on Oct. 25.
