Idaho Firm Offers To Handle Hawaiian Trash

Mountain Home, Idaho — Idaho Waste Systems, Mountain Home, Idaho, has proposed to transfer trash from the Hawaiian island of Oahu to a landfill near Boise, Idaho. According to The Daily News paper in Longview, Wash., the company’s proposal calls for the trash to be shipped by barge from Honolulu to either Longview, Wash., or Rainer, Wash. From one of those locations, the trash would be transferred by rail to the landfill, the paper reports.

According to the paper, "Honolulu, which handles solid waste on the island of Oahu, has no current plans to ship trash, but companies on the U.S. mainland have made unsolicited proposals to the city-county government."
