Interstate Waste Services and PPL Renewable Energy, Allentown, Pa., have agreed to develop a 6.4-megawatt landfill gas-to-energy facility at the Community Refuse Service Landfill in Shippensburg, Pa. The landfill will provide 3.2 million cubic feet of methane gas each day to power the 250-acre facility, which is scheduled to open before January 2009.

“Our company is committed to developing renewable energy projects that reduce methane gas emissions and have a positive impact on the environment,” said Frank Celli, CEO of Interstate Waste, in a press release. “I am particularly excited about the inclusion of an educational facility at this site, which will help teach children about the benefits of renewable energy.”
