Houston-based Greenstar North America has opened what it says is the largest recycling center in Texas in San Antonio. The 180,000-square-foot facility, which can handle up to 20,000 tons of material per month, is designed to process materials collected in single-stream programs.

“The city of San Antonio has helped to pioneer recycling in Texas,” said Mike Wynne, CEO of Greenstar North America, in a press release. “Today's grand opening demonstrates the commitment that has been made to increasing recycling rates — which is the right choice and allows the city to decrease landfill cost, preserve natural resources and reduce carbon emissions.”

The facility will employ approximately 200 workers.
