California recycling event garners 70,000 pounds of e-waste

The Fresno, Calif.-based Electronic Recyclers of America (ERA), in conjunction with the California State University in Fresno collected nearly 70,000 pounds (lbs.) of electronics at its first community collection event held last month. According to the organization, which is the largest e-waste recycler in California, residents, businesses and university students dropped off almost 2,000 items of electronic equipment totaling 69,982 lbs. over the two-day event. “We are thrilled with the success of this event and excited about forging this partnership with Fresno State in general,” ERA president and CEO John S. Shegerian said. “It is a true testament to the need of an organized electronic waste drop-off in the Central Valley.”
