Public Hearing Rescheduled for Michigan County Solid Waste Management Plan

Public Hearing Rescheduled for Michigan County Solid Waste Management Plan

After Republic Services closed the Adrian Landfill in Adrian, Mich., the State of Michigan decided that a change needed to be made since the landfill tipping fee was the main source of funding for Adrian County’s recycling and solid waste programs.

A public hearing to discuss a draft for an updated solid waste management plan was scheduled for June 15 but to meet the state requirements for public notices, the hearing has been canceled and rescheduled for August 17 at the old Lenawee County Courthouse.

Daily Telegram has more information on this hearing:

To meet state requirements for public notices, a June 15 public hearing on a draft updated solid waste management plan has been cancelled.

After the June hearing was scheduled and advertised, the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality sent word that a second public notice of the hearing is required 30 days prior to it happening. It was too late for a second notice of the June 15 date, so the hearing was canceled and re-scheduled for 5 p.m. on Aug. 17 at the old Lenawee County Courthouse.

The public comment period on the draft plan also has been extended to Aug. 31.
