A recycling program for single-serve coffee pods launched in Nova Scotia was an “overwhelming success,” says the operations manager for Wheaton’s.

“We soon realized that we’d taken in more cups than we could possibly process,” David Bradford said in an interview.

That means changes are underway. The six-month pilot project launched Sept. 16 by the Berwick furniture and home decor company, Mother Parker’s Tea & Coffee Inc. and DASC (Dartmouth Adult Services Centre) Industries has already diverted five tonnes of the popular K-Cups from the landfill, he said.

“We’re just our little corner of North America here that nobody even knows about, and the volumes (here) are pretty staggering. If you do that across the country and the U.S., it’s something that needs to be addressed.”
