Allison Transmission

Allison Transmission, Indianapolis, offers the MD 3000 series of transmissions, rated up to 930 gross pounds per foot of torque and up to 320 gross horsepower (hp). The transmissions are designed for front, rear and side loaders, as well as for dual-station trucks. Input/output features include a secondary shift schedule for dual-mode operation and an automatic neutral feature designed to prevent gear engagement when auxiliary equipment is in operation, the company says. Options include an integral retarder, which is designed to slow the vehicle before applying the service brakes.

Caterpillar Inc., Peoria, Ill., manufactures the C-10, C-12, C-15 and C-16 series of truck engines, all featuring Advanced Diesel Engine Management (ADEM) 2000 electronics designed to monitor engine performance. Features of ADEM 2000 include a 32-bit, 24-megahertz (Mhz) processor; more than 100 controlled customer-set parameters; and 140 inputs/outputs. The C-10 has power ratings of 305 hp to 370 hp, with governed speeds between 1,800 revolutions per minute (rpm) and 2,100 rpm. Multi-torque ratings range from 335/370 braking horsepower (bhp), with peak torque ratings ranging from 1,050 pounds per foot at 1,200 rpm to 1,350 pounds per foot at 1,200 rpm. The C-12 has power ratings of 335 hp to 430 hp at 1,800 rpm or 2,100 rpm, and peak torque ranges from 1,350 pounds per foot to 1,650 pounds per foot. The 14.6-liter C-15 has power ratings from 335 hp to 550 hp, with peak torque up to 1,850 pounds per foot. The C-16 features two horsepower ratings: 575 hp with 1,850 pounds per foot of torque, and 600 hp with 2,050 pounds per foot of torque.

Cummins Inc., Columbus, Ind., has introduced the ISL and ISM diesel engine systems. The ISL engine system includes a four-valves-per-cylinder engine with articulated pistons with targeted piston-cooling and an optional C Brake. Features include roller followers, a structurally reinforced block design, full-authority electronics and a mid-stop liner design. Engines are rated from 310 hp to 350 hp with peak torque ratings from 1,050 pounds per foot to 1,250 pounds per foot and a governed speed of 2,100 rpm. The ISM engine system is designed to automatically optimize fuel, lubrication, cooling, air, accessory and powertrain performance as well as keep track of vital statistics. Features include a new auto-tensioning belt-driven system for the fan and alternator with a crank pulley, and a new Fleetguard lubrication system. ISM engines are rated up to 425 hp with 1,550 pounds per foot of peak torque.

Options include rear-mount shock absorbers.
