Making the Best of a Prickly Situation

On the heels of California banning home-generated sharps waste from trash and recycling containers, New Hampshire is bumping up the number of sharps containers at its highway rest stops. To protect employees emptying trash cans, the safety coordinator for the Bureau of Turnpikes initially set out containers at five locations for disposing of needles used by diabetics and other travelers who depend on injections. The concept has been so popular that the receptacles are being spread across the state.
