Navy Drawing Up Plan for Gorst Landfill in Washington

The Navy failed to show it shouldn’t be held responsible for the Gorst Creek landfill, and now must defuse the old dump’s potential dangers.

The Navy met with the Environmental Protection Agency in November after being ordered to reroute the creek around the landfill. In 1964, Ames Auto Wrecking installed a 24-inch culvert for the creek at the floor of a ravine and began covering it with garbage, including the Navy’s.
