Indianapolis Could Pay up to $6M to Fix Up Julietta Landfill

The Indiana Department of Environmental Management has found erosion on the Julietta Landfill in Indianapolis, and the cost to fix up the landfill and add a new cap could cost the city up to $6 million.

The landfill is located near Whispering Hills Golf Course and has been covered up for a long period of time. While the area surrounding the landfill is safe for the time being, the city will have to take measures to make sure that the site remains safe.

The city of Indianapolis is facing a hefty price tag to fix up a landfill on the southeast side.

The Julietta Landfill has been on the southeast side since the 1970's, and has long been covered up. Whispering Hills Golf Course was built across the street, with part of its driving range sitting on top of the landfill now.

Tests by the Indiana Department of Environmental Management, or IDEM, have found erosion on the site which could present a problem down the road.
