Progressive Waste Acquires SDT Waste and Debris

Toronto-based Progressive Waste Solutions (formerly known as IESI-BFC Corp.) has acquired Chalmette, La.-based SDT Waste and Debris Services. The financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

According to a press release, SDT will keep its name. Tom Martyn, a New Orleans-based district manager for IESI, which is Progressive’s U.S. subsidiary, will oversee SDT. Sidney Torres, who was president of SDT until the acquisition, will remain with the company as a consultant.

SDT’s contracts are not affected by the acquisition, according to Progressive. SDT collects municipal solid waste in the French Quarter and downtown sections of New Orleans; in the town of Independence; and in the parishes of East Feliciana, Iberia, St. Charles, St. Bernard and Tangipahoa.

“My decision to join forces with IESI, a part of Progressive Waste Solutions, was an easy one,” Torres said in a press release. “Over the last five years, they have been our strongest competitor in the state of Louisiana, and they value their employees and deliver the highest quality of service, just as SDT does. I have every confidence that our customers will never notice the difference.”
