Vermont Horse-Drawn Hauling Service Expanding to Middlebury

For 18 years, Patrick Palmer has been collecting trash to the beat of his own drum, moving down the streets at the pace of two horsepower — literally. At just about 4 mph, his garbage hauling business runs on the power of his Percheron team.

Now, Palmer is expanding his successful, anachronistic enterprise to branch out of Bristol into Middlebury as well.

Palmer and his wife keep four horses and are owners of Thornapple Farm. Thornapple offers a variety of horse-powered services beyond its garbage collection routes. During moose hunting season, Palmer and his horses remove downed game from national forests.
