Action Environmental Adding 3rd Eye Cameras to Its Fleet

Teaneck, N.J.-based hauler Action Environmental is expanding upon a pilot program it began in 2016 and planning to quip its entire fleet of more than 300 trucks with 3rd Eye cameras technology by the end of 2017.

"We have been using 3rd Eye cameras for the past year, and the cameras serve two main purposes: to provide day-to-day training and analysis and to learn from individual instances," Action Environmental Group Director of Safety Ken Levine said in a statement.

3rd Eye camera systems record both the driver and the road, providing awareness of what's happening inside and outside the vehicle. In addition to the hardware, a team from 3rd Eye analyzes the video that's been recorded and identifies any problems or issues.

The 3rd Eye camera systems also help Action management with route optimization, service verification, risky behavior reduction and post-crash fault analysis, which helps eliminate false or fraudulent claims of damage.

"In the first three months of deployment, I have personally seen a 30 to 50 percent reduction in risky behavior," Levine said. "And in some cases, we have even seen the system play a serious role in workers' compensation claim investigations."

Since implementing these safety tools, Action says it has seen a decrease in both the severity of incidents and the amount of employee injuries.

"We enjoy our professional relationship with 3rd Eye," Levine said. "They're a national company, and they treat us with the same level of respect and attention to our business as they do large, nationwide companies."

Besides adding smart safety tools into its overall safety plan, Action is also working closely with employees to make sure that everyone is involved in the company's safety efforts and goals.
