GreenRock Rare Earth Recovery Corp. and its partner, Creative Recycling Technologies, have acquired a technology for the recovery and recycling of rare earth elements from electronics.
The Tampa, Fla.-based partners bought the BluBox Rare Earth processing technology, developed and manufactured by the Swiss company Blubox Trading A.G. GreenRock has exclusive rights in the United States to the technology, which it said in a news release is the best available technology for such efforts in the world.
Now used in Europe, the BluBox technology separates and recovers the heavy rare earth elements from a variety of commercial and consumer electronics in an environmentally safe manner. Recycling of these rare earth elements will provide a needed alternative supply, the companies said.
“GreenRock and Creative Recycling are making a significant investment in world leading technology, bringing true e-cycling solutions to the U.S.,” said Jon Yob, CEO and founder of Creative Recycling Systems. “We are very excited about our new technology’s ability to address a major challenge of the electronics recycling industry, the processing and recovery of these strategically important rare earth materials.”
