When Ben Jones and Nate Poynter discovered that there wasn’t an efficient way to keep track of cellphones sent to recycling facilities, the Indianapolis duo decided to step in.

Jones, who has experience in sales, and Poynter, a computer programmer, put their talents together to create Mobile reCell, a software company that establishes a chain of custody for recycled phones.

The passion project, which began as a side endeavor in September 2014, is on track to do $1.3 million in revenue this year. The growing Carmel company has about 40 clients, including large corporate accounts such as Honeywell and Groupon.
