Memphis Awards Trash Hauling Bid to New Firm

The city of Memphis has had a contract for trash hauling services with Waste Management for decades, but a new five-year contract will soon be awarded to Emterra Environmental, USA, based in Flint.

A three-page memo and some discussion at a recent city council meeting had Mayor Larry Wilson explaining the bids received for the services, as well as reasons why the city is not going to contract for curbside recycling at this time.

In the memo, Wilson said the city received bids from four trash hauling firms: Emterra, St. Clair Disposal, Waste Management and Jeff’s Rubish.
