Trash bins in berlin will soon be singing a sweet serenade. To encourage its citizens to properly dispose of trash in public places, the German capital is placing 20,000 solar-powered talking and singing waste receptacles around the city. When trash is placed in a can, it will reply “danke” or “hallo sweetie.” At night, the cans voices will be replaced with a flashing green light to politely avoid frightening anyone.

“The bin is the main protagonist in our efforts to raise people's awareness of the litter problem,” says Bernd Muller, spokesman for the Berlin cleaning services.

Who knew the sounds of trash could be music to your ears.
