Tennessee’s Middle Point Landfill Expected to Reach Capacity in Eight Years

The county has formed an advisory committee to explore the various options for handling solid waste in the years to come.

Middle Point landfill in Rutherford County, Tenn., receives materials from 19 different counties, all of which are prepping for the landfill to reach capacity in approximately eight years.

In an effort to plan for life after Middle Point landfill, the county has formed an advisory committee comprised of members from each municipal government and county officials to explore the various options for handling solid waste in the years to come.

Locals call it Mt. Trashmore: the Middle Point landfill outside of Murfreesboro, where 19 counties, including Davidson, dump their trash.

It is predicted the massive landflll will reach capacity in eight years. That seems like a long-time but with the difficulties is finding a suitable site — there are hundreds of state and federal regulatory requirements to meet, plus there will inevitably be neighbors to assuage — Rutherford County is preparing itself for life after Mt. Trashmore.
