Winter Bros. Buys Progressive’s Long Island Waste, Recycling Business

Winter Bros. Waste Systems has purchased the Long Island, N.Y., waste and recycling operations of Progressive Waste Solutions Ltd. for an undisclosed amount.

The Westbury, Conn.-based Winters Bros. acquired all the hauling operations, seven recycling units and eight transfer stations operations, all located in Nassau and Suffolk counties. Winter Bros. adds 20,000 customers and multiple municipalities with those counties through the assets bought from Vaughan, Ontario-based Progressive Waste, according to a news release.

“The purchase of operations on Long Island creates a strong regional platform for our continued growth,” said Joe Winters, chairman and CEO of Winters Bros. “More importantly, we will be able to help municipalities and customers solve their solid waste problems and increase the recycling infrastructure, which is badly needed to advance recycling across Long Island.”

Winters Bros. now will have a strong presence across Long Island with operations in Westbury, Hicksville, Glen Cove, Oyster Bay, West Babylon, Bohemia, Holtsville, Medford, Brookhaven and Yaphank.
