Chicago to Expand Recycling with Coca-Cola Grant

Chicago will expand its recycling program through a $2.59 million grant from Coca-Cola Co.

Atlanta-based Coca-Cola and Stamford, Conn.-based Keep America Beautiful will help the city expand its Blue Cart Recycling Program through the purchase of 50,000 blue carts during the next five years, according to a news release. Half those carts will be delivered this year.

Coke’s philanthropic arm, the Coca-Cola Foundation, is granting the money to Keep America Beautiful to help Chicago become a greener city.

“Chicago residents have been asking for citywide recycling services for many years, and this grant will help expand blue cart recycling to all communities by the end of 2013 and pay for damaged and replacement carts for years to come,” said Mayor Rahm Emanuel.
