Advanced Disposal Upgrades Miss. Recycling Facility

Advanced Disposal Services Inc. has made a $1.5 million upgrade to its Sumrall, Miss., recycling facility.

The Jacksonville, Fla.-based waste and recycling company said in a news release it added a new sort line and baler that allows for 10 tons of material to be sorted  hourly single-stream compared to about 1.5 tons with the original system.

When fully staffed, the sort line requires 14 people to operate. The recycling facility currently is processing about 675 tons per month.  The facility is available for other third-party haulers in Lamar County and neighboring counties, as well as municipal governments in the surrounding areas.

Since the equipment was added the facility has begun providing recycling services to Hattiesburg, Miss., and processes about 60 tons per month of recyclables collected from local schools and Jones County Junior College.

“The addition is in response to the ever-growing popularity of recycling in the greater Pine Belt area,” said Poncho James, vice president – corporate recycling for Advanced Disposal.
