GHG Permits Deferred

As Waste Age’s January issue was going to press, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency announced that it was delaying for three year requirements that landfills obtain Clean Air Act permits for carbon dioxide emissions.

The agency will use the next three years “to seek further independent scientific analysis of this complex issue and then to develop a rulemaking on how these emissions should be treated in determining whether a Clean Air Act permit is required.

Waste Age will have further coverage of the EPA’s decision in its February 2011 issue.
